I'm trying to decide between being an English major or possibly going into Engineering Technologies. The bad part is that I really need to pick by the end of the semester. I love books but I also love cars!

Double majors are good for you. And not actually that much harder, either.

Do you also enjoy struggling to make ends meet and constantly searching for Starbucks jobs because there is nothing in your field?

Which one is more enjoyable?
Both equal?
Which pays better?
More money=More cars. Problem solved

If you're thinking of a double major, I'd aim for the school with the better engineering department. It's a very competitive field right now, though.

Engineering is my vote. If you were asking for votes. Or not.

English major? You know you can get a job flipping burgers even without that?

Engineering with an English minor. If you want to be able to buy cars later in your life, be an engineer.

Dude how is that even a decision? Engineering and if you needed only one reason it would be that you can actually get a real job with it.

Let me add a voice to the choir. Engineering. Library books are free. Reading groups are free. I'm a complete sucker for the written word and all of the human condition coded therein...but sadly, college isn't the place for that anymore. It's a shitty economic move to get an english degree as your stand-alone.
Unless, you are wealthy or about to be so.
Plus, engineers could use people who know how to use the language, or at least have an interest in it.
Fuck it, go French Lit. Or Comparative Religion.

This is easy. Go google search "most worthless degrees"
Actually here, I know you liberal arts folk are lazy:

What type of engineering are you interested in? I just finished Civil, probably going to do my masters. I got a job well before I graduated, as did 90% of my peers. The 10% that didn't, there were obvious reasons, such as not owning a car.

Major in Engineering...you'll find work. Minor in English, because you won't find work with that.

Automotive Journalism!!
Do engineering, and try the double major. You can always finish the English double major part online after you graduate with the engineering degree. you can't always get an online engineering degree with the labs and what not. english? hell what labs are involved in that? (I really don't know there could be a paper making lab or something)

Major in Engineering, minor in English. Humanities majors, on average, don't make as much as the science guys. Not that money is the end-all-be-all, but there is a reason, other than fun, that I started my business.

My advice. Don't stress. It's important, but it doesn't matter as much as you think it does right now. If you later decide you've made a 'wrong decision' at this point, is still easily correctable. Just don't graduate before deciding it was the wrong decision.
Don't stress, you'll think more clearly and make the better decision.

Engineering...says the engineer. Why? Jobs. Seriously. There is a going to be a huge bubble of baby boomers retiring here very soon. What field are you looking into and why engineering technologies? Depending in what you want to work on ET might put you in a weird spot.

I really want to work in either the automotive sector at a high performance car maker like Pagani or Koenigsegg. I would also like to work with a big bicycle company like specialized.
Honestly, I would pick technologies over engineering because technologist is much more hands on. I'm also not that amazing at math and I know that technologist don't have to take near as much math.

Creative Writing major who knows a few Engineering majors—if you can hack the stupid-hard math and sciences, engineers have much better career prospects. You go with English, and you'll find yourself trapped in grad school hell and envying the pizza delivery guy's salary.

I think that you will find nothing but perfect, unbiased opinions here!
But in all reality, go for Engineering. If you really like books and such, minor in English, possibly focusing on journalism, if that's your thing.
Not trying to compare people's dreams here, but at my school, it's a well known fact that a large people start out as engineering majors, then switch to business or liberal arts when they find the work is too hard. Make sure you are prepared for the workload with whatever you do.
